Collserola is a well-preserved, 8,000-hectare natural area in which you’ll find forest, plants, flowers and wild animals.

Since 1987, Collserola has been managed under a special protection plan, and the environmental objectives and concerns behind this plan were recently reinforced when the area was given the status of a Natural Park.

Ciutadella Park

La Ciutadella is a park situated in Ciutat Vella, Barcelona. It was created in the mid 19th century, and it has always been the city’s only green space. The 70 acres (280,000 m2) grounds include the city zoo (once home to the albino gorilla Floquet de neu (Snowflake), who died in 2004), the Parliament of Catalonia, a small lake, museums, and a large fountain.

The main attraction is the zoo. This is due to out of the 7,000 animals present.

One half of the park's paths are sinuous and more natural-looking, and the other half ordered and parallel. Along both, huge a variety of vegetation is displayed.

Let’s have a look on the park and its parts:

CITADEL

The citadel was built in order to maintain control over the city and to prevent Catalans from rebelling. This was during the kingdom of Phillip V of Spain.

CASCADA (WATERFALL)

It is located at the northern corner of the park opposite to the lake. It was inaugurated in 1881.

LAKE

It is a scenery enjoyable most of all for romantics. Here you can find turtles on rocks, and fishes dashing through the water.

BANDSTAND

The park’s bandstand is named Glorieta de la Transsexual Sònia. It is dedicated to a transsexual named Sonia, who was murdered there on 6th October 1991.

Gràcia's festival

In the middle of August, one of the most famous neighborhoods of Barcelona celebrates its festival. If you come to Barcelona during August you should totally visit this neighborhood.

This is the winner of 2015
During one week there will be a lot of activities for everyone and where streets are decorated too. How? This is one of the most famous attractions of this event. The streets of Gràcia are transformed into magic places. The people who live in the street think of a theme and they decorate their street with recyclable products and with extraordinary ideas. After that, there is a contest to decide which street has the better decoration. This year the street that has won has been C/Verdi which was decorated in Japanese style.

You can enjoy other activities such as cercaviles, castellers, workshops, water fights, some championships such as the domino one, concerts…

We recommend this festival because it is different and so much fun.

The resort also includes Costa Caribe Aquatic Park and six hotels. It is the biggest resort in the south of Europe.

In this park people can have fun in different ways – they can go to a lot of attractions, which is the most common way to spend the day. Nevertheless people can see the shows that are made every day. Now we are going to explain how everything works in the park:

The park is divided in different parts and each of them has a theme. They are Mediterrania, Far West, México, China, Polynesia and Sésamo Aventura.

MEDITERRANIA:

It is the main entrance area of the park. It reproduces a typical coastal town in Catalonia featuring a big lake in which people can enjoy shows at some points of the day.

The attractions:
Furius Baco

Furius Baco – which you cannot lose. It is one of the best attractions that the park offers. Its top speed is 135 km/h! Moreover, it passes over the lake.

Port de la Drassana: one of the boat ride station of PortAventura which takes visitors from the Mediterrania area to the Chinese area.

This part of the park is themed as an old wild west town and features many western buildings and sculptures. It has 9 attractions, which makes it the biggest area in the park. It is home to these thrill rides:

Stampida

Tomahawk: a junior version of Stampida.

Silver River Flume: a traditional water flume.

Grand Canyon Rapids: a whitewater tub raft adventure along the Grand Canyon.

                                                         MÉXICO:

This area is themed on pre-Columbian Mexico, Mayan Mexico. It features temples, statues and a Great Piramide that is the entrance to the Gran Teatro Maya, the biggest show zone of the park.

Some attractions:

Hurakan Condor: a drop tower ride operated by a cable lift. The ride provides a beautiful view at the top, just before plummeting! It is one of the most famous attractions – and personally the scariest one!

El Diablo – Tren de la Mina: a mine train with various small tunnels. The top speed isa round 60 km/h.

Seripiente Emplumada: if you don’t get dizzy easily you should try this attraction. It is a spinning ride.

It is one of the most crowded parts of the park – and one of the biggest theme lands of the park. It is themed in the same style as the Great Wall of China.

Some rides:

Dragon Khan: It is one of the most famous roller coasters of the park. If you go to PortAventura you totally have to take ride on it!

Shambhala: This roller coaster beats 3 European records, as it is the fastest (134 km/h) and talles hyper coaster in Europe (76 m tall) and has the longest drop in Europe at 78 m (2m underground). You may be intimidated at first by its height, but you HAVE TO take a ride on it!

It is different from the other rides in the park as it is a more laid back area with less thrilling rides. It is one of the smallest themed areas – but very beautiful.

Some attractions:
Tutuki Splash
Tutuki Splash: a water ride themed along an erupting volcano – recommendable!
Sea Odyssey 4D: it is a dynamic cinema themed as a submarine. It takes you to a short journey to the bottom of the ocean.

SÉSAMO AVENTURA:

Themed to the Sesame Street characters, this area is aimed for the little ones. It is colorful and perfect for the younger visitors.

These were the most popular attractions and shows of the different parts of the park. Now we are going to explain you other parks that are part of PortAventura.

FERRI LAND:

It is an area themed to the Italian sports car brand. It includes new rides and a hotel. It will be a separate park from PortAventura Park.

It is a water park adjacent to PortAventura Park. It includes 16 attractions and slides. It is themed to the Caribbean, with beaches, palm trees, and Latin and reggae music.

How to get to PortAventura Park?

It has two airports within 30 minutes of it, including Reus Airport. There is a train station for PortAventura which has connections to Barcelona and Salou.
